The History of the hotel

The Hotel Café Ernst was opened in 1982 by the master hotelier Anita Ernst in the newly-established "Kueser-Plateau" district, the health spa and convalescent centre of Bernkastel-Kues. At the beginning, the Hotel offered 9 rooms for holidaymakers and guests that required convalescence, accommodating their carer where necessary.

Even at that time, the café was widely known as a meeting point for health spa guests and holidaymakers. Not only coffee and cake, but also refined drinks, draft beers and wines from the best Bernkastel-Kues vineyard locations were part of the selection.

Step-by-step the house was enlarged and continually renovated in order to always be able to cater for the increasing demands. Right from the beginning, the Ernst family placed great value on quality and the satisfaction of their guests. In 2011, the hotel was awarded 3 stars by the Rhineland Palatinate Tourism Authority and the German Hotel & Catering Association.

In the year 2012, the second generation followed with Jan Ernst (confectioner and Hotel manager). He took over the business from his mother Anita Ernst and gave the Hotel-Café Ernst a new, fresher outfit within the scope of a large renovation project.
